We are delighted to announce that Mondays has sponsored the Davos Women’s Demo Team – an all-women ski team with ten skiers originally from Davos, Switzerland. Plastic-free periods has hit the slopes.

This artistic sport is not a ‘professional sport’, so in addition to dedicating their time to ski training, these talented women all have their own careers which means they are scattered across Switzerland during the week. They are all passionate about their sport, the mountains and the environment. The environmental impact of climate change is very apparent in the mountains; glaciers are disappearing at far greater speeds than anticipated. We hope that together with these dedicated and talented women, we can spread the message that every little step taken to reduce our negative impact on the planet is worth it.

It is an integral part of Mondays’ mission to support women following their dreams, and we hope that the Davos Women will inspire you to take the time to follow your dreams and aspirations.

Céline, one of the Davos Women, is a first-year medical student based in Bern Monday to Friday. She has written a blog post to introduce the team and our partnership. We hope you feel their passion and positive energy – we certainly did as the photos from our shoot show…

We, the Demo Team Davos Women, are delighted to start working together with Mondays this year. But who exactly are we? And what connects us to Mondays…?

Demo skiing is not a well-known winter sport, but the discipline reigns supreme amongst the ski instructors. A team sport in which eight synchronised skiers all perform a selected choreography. The start is usually in two parallel lines. One rider takes the lead, and it is essential for everyone else to adapt to their rhythm.

Being a part of the Demo Team and representing Davos, is much more than “just” skiing down a slope together. We all work or study during the week and commit our weekends all winter long to training. We spend the whole day together, practising our choreography and continuously improving our skiing technique. The social part of the training is integral to binding us as a team. We like going out for dinner or drinking a beer or two in the evenings. We are not only teammates but also good friends.

To be able to perform to the highest level in demo skiing, the team has to ski as one. Last year six new members, who had never skied a demo before, joined the four existing team members. Of course, you have to have a certain level of technique on the slopes, but even for the best skiers, demo skiing is an entirely different discipline. That’s why we are thrilled that the team is back again this winter.

The team consists of 10 talented women:

Anja is our captain, and she leads the team on and off the slope. Anja has been training to become a teacher and has just completed her teacher training. She is working as a ski instructor in Davos for the 2019/20 ski season and follows the life motto “born to be wild”.

Andrina will also be working as a ski instructor this season. This is her second season in a row, having spent the summer travelling through Africa.

Carla is a real power woman, enjoying every moment. She works in a bridal fashion store, is studying for her business diploma on the side and in the winter gives ski lessons too.

Caro, unfortunately, tore her cruciate ligament in summer and won’t be able to join us on the slopes this year. She remains a part of the team and will continue to join us, this season for fun off the slopes, and we hope she will be back in training next season. Caro is in her 4th year at medical school.

Fabienne is a medical practice assistant in Chur during the week; training apprentices and giving first aid courses. The quietest amongst us yet great fun off the slopes, and the organised one in our group. She lives the motto of not dreaming the life but instead living the dream.

Gloria is a qualified hairdresser and is now also working in the area of training and further education in Zürich. As a mountain’s lover, she embraces the saying that the best view comes after the hardest climb in all aspects of her life.

Like Andrina, Nadja is in her second year teaching at the Davos ski school. She spent her summer travelling through Asia. As a qualified confectioner, she is responsible for our dietary and physical well-being 😉

Laura has joined us this year and is teaching at the Davos ski school for the first time. She comes from Davos and has completed high school last summer.

Romi, a practising medical assistant but is now training to become a radiologist.

And me (Céline), I am the ‘youngest one’ of the team. I completed my Matura (A-Levels /IB) in the summer and am now studying medicine in Bern. I didn’t initially plan to stay in the demo team for more than a year, but the truth is that after my first season, I loved it so much that I couldn’t leave.

We are all committed to the Davos Women’s Demo Team for this season and many more. We are super excited to enter into a long-term sponsorship with Mondays, which has enabled us to replace our team’s outfits and are thrilled with the result. This would not have been possible without sponsorship. We now proudly carry the Mondays’ logo on our jackets and helmets. We see Mondays as the ideal partner for us, we love that their mission encompasses that periods shouldn’t hold anyone back as we are a team full of powerful women, we motivate each other and are all great role models for one another. The environmental part of Mondays’ mission is also something that we really relate to. Skiing is one of the sports where the influence of climate change is most noticeable, and we are passionate about our home and the mountains we love.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Mondays once again, and we look forward to a successful cooperation and a great, accident-free season.

Sie folgt dem Lebensmotto “born to be wild”.

Sie lebt das Motto: “Don’t dream your life, live your dream”.
